Saffron Indian Resturant

Do you want to have a nice night out in a cozy restaurant with spicy traditional Indian food. Well then Saffron might be the place. It's where Daddy and I ate tonight. It is not perfect but the food is actually pretty good for curry lovers. Saffron is located in Morrisville, North Carolina conveniently near Research Triangle Park. The atmosphere was loud but fun. The only issue for Daddy and me was a TV that was near the bar which seemed out of place in a nice restaurant. The decor was modern and Indian inspired. We sat near a wall and it was pretty dirty. This thoroughly grossed us out. The service was ok but there were many gaps and we had a different waitress every time. I felt that they just went in circles never really trying to check on us to see if we needed more water or soda. It did give Daddy and me plenty of time to talk about our next adventure! All the waiters were polite and friendly.

Our starter was Papadam bread. This is a thin and crispy wafer bread (think thin Tortilla chips) with three sauces. The first sauce was a cilantro pesto, the second a thin yogurt tzatziki, and last an apple infused barbecue. We then ordered our meal and received our drinks. I ordered a Mango Lassi which was delicious it tasted just like you were biting into a fresh mango. I could drink this every day! Daddy loved it too! Our appetizer was Tandoori Paneer-- homemade cheese, stuffed with mint and garnished with the same cilantro and barbecue sauces. In our opinion the fried cheese tasted too much like scrambled eggs. After a rather lengthy wait our entrees came. I ordered Lamb Chop Masala-grilled lamb chops cooked in a spicy curry sauce served with potato wedges. I found the lamb to be very moist in delicious but it was drenched in an inferno hot curry sauce. If you could take the pain it was delicious! It was a big entree and I brought plenty home in a doggy bag. Daddy got Lamb RoganJosh-a traditional north Indian lamb curry, served with long grained white rice. It too was spicy but the rice helped balance out the flavor. It was a little oily but in a delicious way. We also order some basil naan bread. It was really yummy, buttery, and perfect to dip in the thick curry sauce on our entrees.

After another long wait, we ordered desert and coffee. The coffee was average according to Daddy. I think he is waiting for us to hit a Turkisk restaurant to get some real coffee! We then received our desert: Mango Kulfi-a traditional mango ice cream. I found the ice cream to not be creamy at all. In fact it was rather icy like a sorbet. It also tasted like someone had replaced some of the sugar with salt. Not a favorite of mine but Daddy loved it. Overall we give this restaurant 6.5 out of 10. They need to clean up the place a bit and train the waiters to be attentive but the food raised the score. For more information and to see the menu, please visit http://www.saffronnc.com/home.html
